Problem: /plugin install superpowers says "plugin not found" (marketplace source not added) —— Trove problem library

Verified 2026-08-29Plugin not found — add the source, install, verify: /plugin marketplace add obra/superpowers-marketplace then /plugin install.

Quick fix

# One-liner: add the source, install, then verify (standard three steps)
/plugin marketplace add obra/superpowers-marketplace && /plugin install superpowers@superpowers-marketplace && /plugin marketplace list

What you will run into

/plugin install superpowers@... reports plugin not found / can't find the plugin.

You think the name is misspelled — actually the marketplace source isn't added: superpowers isn't in the currently configured marketplace sources (the upstream marketplace and the community marketplace have different source names).

Why this happens

The plugin marketplace works on "add the source first, then install": a plugin not in your configured sources won't be found.

Upstream and community marketplace sources have different names; whichever channel's version a tutorial uses, you must add the matching source.

Plugin installation is two-level addressing: "add the source first, then install".

Step one registers the marketplace source with the client (/plugin marketplace add) and pulls that source's plugin catalog; step two (/plugin install) looks up the name only among the registered sources.

plugin not found happens at step two, which means step one didn't take effect — either the source was never added, or the name doesn't match an entry in the source.

Source names are "repo + channel" (obra/superpowers-marketplace); the same plugin on different channels is a different entry, so you must add the source matching the tutorial's channel.

Verification is also two-level: /plugin marketplace list (did the source register? config layer) -> new session /find-skills (is the skill visible? runtime layer) — verifying only the second level keeps hitting the same wall when the first is broken.

Marketplace sourcePurpose
obra/superpowers-marketplaceCommunity channel (maintained by superpowers itself)
claude-plugins-officialUpstream official channel

Step by step

1. Add the marketplace source first — Required

/plugin marketplace add obra/superpowers-marketplace

(Or claude-plugins-official, depending on which channel's version you want.)

2. Then install — Required

/plugin install superpowers@superpowers-marketplace

3. Confirm and update — Required

/plugin marketplace list

Check the source took effect; if needed, /plugin marketplace update and retry.

How to confirm it works

Verify skill visibility in a new session (standard verification path from a Juejin tutorial):

/plugin marketplace list
→ source list contains the superpowers source
In a new session run /find-skills → the skill appears

Symptom

/plugin install superpowers@... reports plugin not found / cannot find plugin.

Cause

Marketplace source not added or name misspelled: superpowers is not in the currently configured marketplace sources (upstream marketplace and community marketplace source names differ).

Solution

  1. First add the marketplace source: /plugin marketplace add obra/superpowers-marketplace (or claude-plugins-official, depending on which channel's version you want).
  2. Then install: /plugin install superpowers@superpowers-marketplace.
  3. Confirm: /plugin marketplace list to check the source is active; if needed /plugin marketplace update then retry.
Verification Evidence
  • Web case: CSDN troubleshooting guide (2026-01) — Plugin not found -> marketplace config error, solved by adding the source.
  • Juejin basic tutorial (2026) — standard three steps: add source -> install -> verify with /find-skills in a new session.
  • Not tested (honestly noted): the Claude Code plugin marketplace path is not testable on this machine (no login state); the above is a synthesis of web solutions.
