Quick fix
# One-liner: confirm plugin status → fully exit and reopen → check again
/plugin list && /exit
After reopening a new session, /find-skills; verify the path per step 3.
What you will run into
Install succeeds, but /find-skills (or the equivalent skill-view command) doesn't show skills like brainstorming / systematic-debugging / test-driven-development. Installed but unusable.
Why this happens
| Cause | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Skill cache not refreshed | Checking immediately after install; cache still old |
| Didn't fully exit and open a new session | Skills are scanned at startup, not refreshed while running |
| Wrong path | Skills placed in a directory Claude can't read |
| Incomplete cache | Upstream Issue #818: only 7 of 14 skills installed; reinstall completes them |
Between "install succeeded" and "skill visible" sits a cache: the plugin/skill package is unpacked to disk at install time, and the client caches the scan result (the skill list) for in-session queries — installation and scanning are two separate moments.
Checking right after install queries the stale cache (no rescan yet); a running session holds the startup-time in-memory state and never refreshes automatically.
That gives you three deterministic cells for "installed but invisible".
Cache not refreshed: only a new session triggers a rescan.
Wrong scan directory: skills did not land in a fixed path like ~/.claude/skills/, so the scan never sees them.
Incomplete cache: an interrupted upstream download/unpack leaves fewer skills than expected — e.g. 7/14 in Issue #818.
The verification order is fixed: /plugin list first (is the plugin itself usable? rules out the plugin layer), then fully quit and reopen (forces a rescan), then /find-skills.
There's also a lead-time trick: after unpacking the tarball, count skill dirs / SKILL.md / frontmatter — completeness can be confirmed before installing.
Step by step
1. Confirm plugin status — Required
/plugin list
An exclamation mark = unavailable (see symptom-6 entry).
2. Fully exit and reopen a new session — Required
Ctrl+C or /exit to fully exit (not just a new window), then reopen and check.
3. Check the path — Required
Claude Code reads ~/.claude/skills/ (or the plugin install dir); don't place skills elsewhere:
ls ~/.claude/skills/
4. Rerun the install when the cache is incomplete — Required
Upstream Issue #818 scenario: only 7 of 14 skills installed; reinstall completes them.
How to confirm it works
Skills fully visible (measured verification shape):
tarball structure: 14 skill dirs / 14 SKILL.md / frontmatter 14/14 valid
New session /find-skills → brainstorming / systematic-debugging / test-driven-development etc. appearOther environments
| Environment | Notes |
|---|---|
| Cache not refreshed | Reopen a new session (upstream Issue #818 reinstall to complete) |
| Wrong path | Put in ~/.claude/skills/ (or the plugin install dir) |
| Plugin exclamation mark | See symptom-6 entry's local/offline form handling |
| Completeness precheck | After unpacking the tarball, count skill dirs / SKILL.md / frontmatter |
Symptom
Install succeeds, but /find-skills (or an equivalent skill viewer command) does not show brainstorming / systematic-debugging / test-driven-development etc.
Cause
Skill cache not refreshed; not fully exiting and reopening a new session; skills placed in a directory Claude cannot read (wrong path).
Solution
/plugin listto confirm plugin status (! = unavailable, see Symptom 6).- Fully exit (Ctrl+C or /exit) and reopen a new session, then check again.
- Check the path: Claude Code reads
~/.claude/skills/(or the plugin install dir); do not place skills elsewhere. - If the cache is incomplete, re-run the install command (upstream Issue #818 scenario: 14 skills, only 7 installed; reinstall fills the rest).
Verification Evidence
- Web case: CSDN (2026-06) + Juejin FAQ (2026) — exit-restart + path check are common community solutions.
- International signal (L32 anonymous excerpt): upstream Issue #818 incomplete skill cache (7/14).
- Verified in this marketplace: tarball structure 14 skill dirs / 14 SKILL.md / frontmatter 14/14 valid — skill completeness can be pre-validated.
